November is here and for the most part October was Very hot. In November we typically see a migration of fish heading south or up into the rivers looking for a little warmer waters. The mackerel head to the south the king fish make an appearance then disappear, snook head up into the rivers and Trout will be on the deeper grass flats.
November is a great time to fish and with the warm weather of October I would expect that the earl fall bite will continue for a few more weeks unless we get a major cold front. If temperatures stay up I would expect the snook to stage near the river mouths and streams. Dock fishing for snook this time of year is a good bet.
Spanish mackerel will hang around until the water temperature his to the low 70’s or upper 60’s I would look for them near the Skyway and along the Southshore area near the main channel.
King fish will be off shore and they too will be around until the water temperature drops. It’s a bit of a run from the Southshore of Tampa Bay out to the King fish spots but well worth it if you want to see the smokers peel some drag from your reels.
Look for trout in some of the deeper grass areas as well as up some of the deeper cuts in the river’s. I like to fish trout under a popping cork with live shrimp or a medium size pilchard.
Tarpon should just about be gone but don’t be surprised if you hang into one near the Alafia and the Little Manatee rivers. We have a few Tarpon stay around year round but they to will be seeking warmer water.
Look for redfish in the back country near some of the oyster bars the dot the area in Cockroach Bay. Redfish will be spooky as the water temperature begins to drop and the water becomes clear.
October was slow and I am optimistic that Novembers bite will be good as long as we get our air temperature a little closer to normal.
