Fishing Report and forecast for the Tampa Bay and Saint Petersburg Area
3-10-09
The spring time bite has started. Some of the big snook have moved out of the creeks and Rivers and are in some of there early spring time holes. I would expect as the weather stays warm fishing will only get better.
Last Thursday we fished the Little Manatee River and my clients boated about 15 snook. Most were in the 22 inch range.
On Friday we also fished the Little Manatee and had pretty much the same results as the day before but this time we caught nearly 25 snook.
On Saturday we fished the Little Manatee River and caught a few Snook and then move over to the St. Petersburg side of Tampa Bay and worked a school of Black Drum. We caught 6 drum over 30 pounds.
Sunday’s trip I changed up and fished some of my Spring time spots and caught fewer Snook but most were between 22 and 27 inches.
This past Tuesday we caught Snook to 31 inches , Redfish to 25 inches and Trout up to 20 inches. By far Tuesday’s trip was the best for this week.
A special Thanks goes out to Capt Todd Foucher and Capt. Bobby Blizzard (from the fishing simplified web site ) who invited me over to fish next to them while they were hammering the Red Fish and filming there weekly show.
From all indication the spring time bite is on. I would expect the bait to start moving up into Tampa Bay very soon and for sure the Mackerel, Kings and cobia are not far behind.
Water temperatures are in the mid sixties and rising and it won’t be long before the white bait moves up on the flats. Right now you will have to look deep for the white bait. Shrimp is an excellent choice this time of year.
Be safe out there.
