November Fishing Forecast Tampa Bay

November 2011 Fishing Forecast

SouthShore Tampa Bay

November is here and hopefully a little cooler weather at least a little more comfortable. November kicks off the annual migration of fish headed for warmer waters south of our area or into the local rivers. Fish will seek a comfortable area in regards to both temperature and habitat.

Spanish mackerel and King mackerel will hang around until the water temperatures drops through 70 degrees, then head south. Best concentration of mackerel will be just off the gulf beaches, a bit of a run from the South Shore but well worth it if you like to hear your drag scream.

An improving snook population will head into the rivers and deeper water of Tampa Bay looking for warmth. The snook bite will be tough again this year because of the low number of survivors of the 2010 freeze. Please handle them with care.

Trout will be on the deeper grass and some of the deeper spots in the Manatee and little Manatee Rivers. Try fishing trout with a DOA shrimp under a Cajon thunder or some of the soft plastic tails with a jig head. Please check your regulations for the closed season on trout in November and December for the southern regions of Florida.

Redfish will move near the many oyster bars that fill the back country of Tampa Bay. Try using a pin fish under a bobber another good way to catch Red fish is to use cut lady fish or cut up pin fish. The dead bait ad’s a little sent to the waters. When fishing with dead bait you must have patients and do expect to catch plenty of cat fish.

October was a bit slow and I am optimistic that Novembers bite will be good so long as our air temperature stays close to normal and the wind speed stays low.

I can’t go into November without a mention of the Fishing for Hope food drive held each year and coordinated by Capt. Bill Miller. This year’s event will be held on November 19, 2011 at the Metropolitan Ministries. The radio show that I host (ESPN Tampa Fishing Outfitters Radio 1040am) will be setting up food drop off points where you can drop off your nonperishable foods prior to the November 19th event. Drop off points are Southshore Bait and Tackle Ruskin, Tampa Fishing Outfitters 3916 W Osborne Ave. Tampa, and Marine America 3701 50th Ave south St. Petersburg.

You can also bring your food to the metropolitan ministries on November 19th before Noon. Stop by and say high to us all while we load the boat with food. This is a great event and one I look forward to each year. Let’s make this a great year!
